REFINARIA NACIONAL DE SAL AND THE BORBOLETA AZUL PROJECT

“I believe that experiential education in nature is one of the best, if not the best, way to train people”

Guilherme Barretto Giorgi – Refinaria Nacional de Sal CEO

For 9 years we have sponsored an APAE-SP program,
coordinated by Outward-bound Brazil, with the objective of
preparing APAE students to enter the job market.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

These are preparatory activities developed at the institution with a previous meeting at a nearby urban park, and a course in the format of an expedition in a remote area in the region of Campos do Jordão for 4 days and 3 nights.

In the field, challenging activities are developed for young people who have rarely had any experience away from their families. The activities allow the individual to leave their comfort zone and come to believe that they can do much more than they thought they could. They start to deal with their fears better

PARTICIPANTS APPLY THE LESSONS OF THE EXPEDITION IN THEIR DAILY ROUTINES, GAINING AUTONOMY AND CONFIDENCE TO OVERCOME THEIR OWN CHALLENGES.

  • More than a decade offering vocational courses, 290 young people have already graduated.

PARTNERSHIP WITH SESI : CITIZENSHIP CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT HUNGER

The worsening in the financial conditions of families due to the pandemic is a reality in the country. In order to collect food for the most needy, the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) launched the SESI Citizenship Against Hunger campaign in partnership with companies and society from Rio de Janeiro. Refinaria Nacional de Sal actively participates in the campaign by donating basic food baskets, which are distributed to needy families in Cabo Frio, where our industry is located.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

A VISION FOCUSED ON ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

With a strategic positioning and a vision focused on environmental sustainability, in 2009 we decided to invest in the construction of a new plant, which would produce more efficiently and sustainably.

CONSCIENTIOUS USE
OF WATER

The issue of water consumption was a very important point to consider in the construction project of the new plant, since we are located in a region of water scarcity, whose water supply is expensive and intermittent. Our annual consumption of 80 million liters could impact supply to local society.

With the implementation of the new factory in 2011, the new manufacturing process reduced water consumption by 90%. We started to reuse the water in a demineralized way in the boilers and in all other points of consumption of the factory such as bathrooms and changing rooms.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN ELECTRICITY GENERATION AND NATURAL GAS SAVINGS

Our search for a more efficient production process was not limited to savings in water consumption.

We generate 90% of the electrical energy necessary for the operation of the plant, we use an energy matrix with low environmental impact

The new, more efficient manufacturing process brought a 51% savings in natural gas consumption.

RECYCLING OF PLASTIC PACKAGING – THE EU RECICLO SEAL

Our concern for the environment and for generation and plastic waste led us to establish a partnership with the “EU RECICLO” project..

The Eureciclo project seal ensures that our brand invests in the development of the recycling chain, through the environmental compensation of our packaging

WHAT IS THE “EU RECICLO” SEAL?

The Eureciclo seal certifies the reverse logistics of post-consumer packaging, through a platform for tracking invoices issued by cooperatives and recycling operators partners. Furthermore, through the concept of environmental offsetting, it ensures that the brands that carry it allocate resources for the development of the recycling chain, establishing itself as a solution for the National Solid Waste Policy, which determines the goal of 22% of reverse logistics of the packaging generated by the companies.

WE DO OUR PART, DO YOURS BY BUYING FROM COMPANIES THAT INVEST IN RECYCLING!

INDUSTRIAL APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

SESI/SENAI SCHOLL

In partnership with SESI/Senai, we created an Industrial Apprenticeship Program within the factory premises to offer technical training in the maintenance area. Every year, 20 new vacancies are offered with a workload of 20 hours/week and the course has a total duration of 13 months.

With 290 young people already graduated, this initiative has contributed to the qualification of the local workforce, generating new job opportunities and improving the socioeconomic conditions of many families.

Many young people trained by the program are currently part of our team and many others have been used in several industries in the region.

LUIS LINDEMBERG SCHOOL

Due to the commitment to educate the children of its employees and to avoid the use of products manufactured with the use of child labor, in November 1998 Refinaria Nacional de Sal S.A. Received the Child-Friendly Company certificate issued by the ABRINQ Foundation for the Rights of the Child.

Refinaria Nacional de Sal believes that its employees constitute the most important part of its assets.

In order to ensure its social well-being, and that of its family, in 1968 it created the Grêmio Recreativo e Cultural 1o de Maio (Recreational and Cultural Guild). The Guild started its activities with a literacy course for the employees, but soon started to teach their children. It was the beginning of the Luís Lindenberg School, named after the precursor of the salt industry in Cabo Frio.
